I was super excited to attend this event as, besides the fact that the name made me giggle #HillarysCrafternoon, I love crafts and really miss making things (something I am going to be getting back into), so with the promise of tea and biscuits I went over to Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff to fulfil my desires of getting crafty!
We were given a lovely welcome from Joes Bloggers, The Crafty Hen and Hillary’s who have written this blog post about the event. There were two different crafts that we were given the challenge of creating; a notebook cover and a little bird.
We were given a little demonstration of how to do each craft as well as having these little hand outs with step by step instructions on which were very handy! We got to choose whichever of the Hillary’s fabrics that were there, it was a hard choice as there were some really lovely patterns.
It was great to practice my hand sewing as it’s not something I do very often, and my little bird did have some messy seams so it’s something I certainly still need to work on! It was so therapeutic to just sit and do a bit of sewing though, I must get back into doing little craft projects like this.
Here are my finished crafts! There were a lot of buttons and ribbons to decorate with but I wanted to keep mine simple so for the notebook I made a braided loop from the same fabric I used to cover it and added this classic leather button. What do you think?
It was a really lovely afternoon and I believe there are similar events being held in both Newcastle and Glasgow in the near future so if you’re a blogger in those areas I would really recommend contacting Joes Bloggers on twitter and getting crafty!
