A Cosy Bedroom for Winter

Cosy bedroom

Some people hate winter, the dark, gloomy days full of frost and chill bring no joy. I’m not one of those people, I adore those sunny frozen mornings seeing the rays of light shine through the ice on my car, the snow covered trees and hills and wrapping up in cosy layers. But there are definitely downsides to the season, and I admit that after a few months putting on all those layers every time I leave the house gets a bit tedious.

One of the things that I love to do to combat the feeling of relentless cold is make my bedroom extra cosy. To me this means lots of comfy cushions, throws and candles but it can be whatever you want it to be!

I always start with a throw on the end of the bed, it keeps my toes extra toasty through the night and it adds texture to bedding which instantly makes it seem more cosy and winter friendly. Add a few coordinating cushions in front of your pillows, light your favourite candle and you’ll find it hard to resist getting into bed early every night!

A couple of my favourite places to get duvet covers and cosy bedding are IKEA (shown above) and Asda. I also have some from Yorkshire Linen that I love (shown below) and they have a duvet sets sale going on these days too with some great discounts! If you haven’t experienced the amazing feeling of brushed cotton bed sheets then you need to get yourself some. We currently have just a brushed cotton fitted sheet (from Wilko) on the bed and it makes sooo much difference to the warmth and cosy levels as soon as you get into bed.

We have an attic room in the house we’ve just moved into with a VELUX skylight (which you can find out more about here) and one of the best things in the world to me is hearing the rain pitter patter onto it whilst we’re toasty and snuggly inside. Since this isn’t my bedroom (and it doesn’t rain every single night, despite what people think about Wales) I actually try to replicate the sound for whilst I’m falling asleep at night!

I use the app Sleep Cycle to do this, as well as an alarm clock. A lot of people already use the app but if you didn’t know this feature existed, go into settings and select sleep aid. You can then choose which sound you want to fall asleep to. The rain on car roof is what I use to feel like it’s on my window but I also recommend ocean waves for something a little more soothing.

I’d love to know what you find cosy and if you focus on making your bedroom winter friendly when the cold weather sets in, leave a comment or tweet me!

Speaking of Twitter, keep an eye out over there and on my instagram for some special giveaways coming soon to kick off the festivities!
