I’ve always been really good at just staying in bed, even before smartphones were a thing I would just lay in bed and think about anything and everything, I’m a huge daydreamer. I remember when I was on my foundation year the fine art tutor (who was completely fabulous just fyi) said that it didn’t matter if we went in a bit late sometimes or took the morning off because she thought it was important to have those times where you just lay and do nothing and that it can be a great way to generate ideas. When I heard this I rejoiced and thought finally, someone who gets it!
I’ve always been this way but it’s only recently that I’ve thought of it as a bad thing. I feel like it’s procrastinating and wasting my time – which granted it often is on the occasions that I’m just mindlessly scrolling on my phone. But it’s occurred to me that (without the phone) it’s a form of mindfulness which seems to be a bit of a trend at the moment. There’s always a lot of emphasis on working hard these days and I think people forget that sometimes you need to just stop and have a rest. So here are some things that make it great to have a lazy day (or week)!
You can do absolutely nothing
It’s a great time to practice mindfulness for a little while. Or if you’re really not into that sort of thing then I’d suggest putting screens away and reading a book for a bit. I love finding books that are so immersive and great that I don’t even think about checking my phone or laptop. Because I’m such a daydreamer I find it quite easy to just be in silence with my thoughts, I’ve actually started writing down the random scenarios that come to mind, I think it’ll be interesting to look back on!
You can stay in your pyjamas all day
If you don’t have a cute pair of pjs that you love and make you feel great or are really cosy and comfy, then go and get some! I adore the DKNY set* that I’m wearing in these photos from uklingerie.com (who have a whole range of women’s loungewear and nightwear). The fabric just feels great and they’re so comfortable, plus I feel kind of adorable in them.
You can catch up on TV shows
Binge watching is probably the thing that most people do on lazy days, and that’s totally fine too. You can finally get around to watching the show that everyone is talking about. I’m currently watching Jane the Virgin and it’s pretty great, I didn’t think I was going to be into it at all but it’s got me hooked. It’s just a nice easy thing to have on. I also talked about a bunch of other TV and film in my March Favourites so go and check that out!
