There are few feelings that are on par with getting a new pair of shoes that you adore. It’s a feeling that can well and truly banish the January blues. I’ve been wanting a pair of lovely loafers for a very long time. I’ve always loved the style, but when it comes to smart looking black shoes it can be tricky to style them and not look like you’re going to school or to the office. With this in mind, I decided to try out a sort of preppy casual look. Since getting my new jeans, I’ve been a bit obsessed with rolling them up (because now it’s an option, not a necessity) and I think it works so well with these shoes.
Patent wouldn’t normally be my first choice, but these shoes have completely changed my opinion. I think I’ve avoided it because it can often look cheap, but with quality leather and a classic design (just look at those tassels ?) I think the patent finish actually makes them look more expensive and timeless.
So basically I’m loving my new loafers and it’s made me so excited to try out different outfits with them as I hardly ever wear shoes like this, I’m much more of a boots or trainers kind of girl. If you read this recent post then you’ll know that this year I’m attempting to try new things with my style, but in subtle ways, and I feel like I’m already getting there.
When you get a new pair of shoes, particularly structured leather ones, it can take a little bit of wearing them in to get them all comfy and in sync with your feet. I decided it would be the perfect time to try out Sticky Heelz*, as the heels of the shoes pinched my ankles a little. They work in two parts, one side sticks to the inside of the shoe and the other side to your foot. The two sides then stick together when you put the shoe on, a bit like velcro. I wore these all afternoon whilst I went shopping to test them out and having that barrier between my heel and the shoe definitely stopped any rubbing.
However, it was quite hard to get the shoes on in the first place and to line up the two pads. Also, because of the velcro system being so strong, when my foot wanted to move I could feel it pulling at my skin. I think they are designed more for shoes that are a little bit too big for you, which would make it much easier to put your foot in and it would definitely keep your foot from slipping out. If this was your primary reason for using them rather than just to prevent rubbing then I’m sure they would be great.
When was the last time you treated yourself to new shoes? Start the year on the right foot and get a new addition!
