The 3 Best Places to Visit in Lanzarote for Free

I’ve already posted about my trip to Lanzarote but I wanted to highlight my favourite places we went and what I think are the best places to visit in Lanzarote for free. It’s such a great place for some cheap sunshine, I couldn’t recommend it more if you can get some good flight deals! If you’re looking to save money on accommodation too then definitely go with an Airbnb, we always choose self-catering to save money and it nice to have an actual home for the trip. If you sign up with my link you can get £25 off your first stay!

There are plenty of things to do on the island and areas to explore. We managed to see more or less the whole island in 3 days though. If you’re interested in what I wore whilst in Lanzarote then take a look at this post too!

Tenesar

There’s not an awful lot going on in this little, somewhat abandoned, village. But for some reason it was one of the places that I took the most photos. There’s just something captivating about the place (and we also met an adorable chihuahua). You can watch the waves crashing into the cliffs from up above or follow the white houses down to the black sand beach.

We stopped here for our picnic lunch and it was a pretty good spot. You can drive (or walk) further up the shoreline too away from the buildings which would be a fantastic spot for lunch overlooking the ocean.

Mirador del Rio

Just to clarify this one – the Mirador del Rio is a lookout point that has been made into an attraction. It doesn’t cost much to go in (€4.50 for adults) but we’re all about saving as much money as possible and we wanted a spot for sunset and the lookout closes at quarter to six. So we kept our coins and drove down the small road to the west and took in the views from there. There’s a gap in the wall with a perfect spot for parking just beyond.

Watching the clouds rolling up over the cliffs with La Graciosa coming in and out of view made a pretty fantastic view. I think the only other time I’ve seen and been in clouds like that was when we climbed Snowdon.

Volcán El Cuervo

We came across this volcano walk whilst trying to find a free alternative to the bus tour around Timanfaya National Park (which we decided to do anyway in the end). I couldn’t recommend this more, it’s an easy walk and you get to see the moon-like landscape up close. The path then takes you into the centre of an extinct volcano which is pretty freaking cool.

It’s honestly like being on another planet and I think one of the coolest places I’ve been. The landscape is fascinating and there are lots of information signs to learn about the history and geology of the area.

Let me know if you’re planning a trip to Lanzarote or if you’ve already been to any of these places!
