My top 3 trips of 2018

best lakes italy lago di braie dolomites

2018 went really quickly didn’t it! I turned 28 a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been having somewhat of a ‘what should I do with my life’ crisis since. Which I do most of the time tbh. 2018 has been a year where I’ve felt like I’ve not really done much but other people have said they think I’ve done a lot. I suppose it’s all about perspective. So here’s my post reflecting on some of the places I’ve been and what the highlights were of my top 3 trips.

The best of the UK: North Coast 500

If you’ve been following me for a while then you’ll know that my boyfriend and I take a trip to Scotland every January. We’d thought about doing the North Coast 500 previously but finally got around to it in 2018. I have to admit it wasn’t my favourite of our Scotland trips but it was definitely worth doing and it was great to a whole new area of Scotland. I also took some of my favourite photos of the year on this trip and it inspired me for the start of the year.

The best for mountains: Dolomites

I went to Italy twice in 2018. It wasn’t planned but the flights to Venice are one of the cheapest so we decided to just go again. On our second trip we spent more time in the Dolomites and it’s become one of my favourite places. The lakes and mountains are breathtaking but also really accessible via a lot of mountain passes. That was one thing I didn’t love about Canada. Everything was so huge and so far apart and there didn’t seem to be many smaller roads. If you’re looking for a mountain adventure then I would highly recommend the Dolomites. (Blog post on the Dolomites coming soon).

The best for winter sun: Lanzarote

This was a complete surprise to me. I never had any thoughts about visiting Lanzarote. I’d always thought of it as full of British tourists and lads on tour. Which to be fair it probably is in the summer but as we went in February for some winter sun we got to see a completely different side of it. It’s a truly beautiful island and it’s very easy to avoid the crowds by staying away from the main towns. This was the first trip we did as a house (Lee and I live with two of our friends) and it was a lot of fun.

I’d love to know your favourite places and trips that you went on in 2018, and what have you got planned for 2019?

I always put together a review video of the year which I love looking back on and I thought this would be a good place to share it too because it’s mostly footage from the trips that I’ve been on!
